Quick answer: The identity management conferences that matter in 2027 fall into four types: analyst-run (Gartner IAM Summit, KuppingerCole EIC), independent multi-vendor (Identiverse, Identity Week, Authenticate), vendor user conferences (Oktane, SailPoint Navigate, CyberArk Impact, Ping YOUniverse) and practitioner-only forums (Identity World, running in Sydney, Melbourne, New York, London and San Francisco). The decision rule: pick one for market intelligence, one for standards and depth, and one where you can talk candidly with peers.
Conference budgets are under more scrutiny than at any time since 2020, and identity teams have more reasons than ever to leave the building: agentic AI is rewriting authorization, non-human identities have become an audit item, passkeys are finally at enterprise scale, and regulators from APRA to the EU are asking harder questions about access control evidence. The right event accelerates all of that. The wrong one is three days of product demos.
This guide is for IAM program owners, identity architects and the CISOs who sign off on their travel. It compares the major identity and access management conferences for 2027 by what they are actually for, who is in the room, where they run and how to choose. Dates are as published by organizers at the time of writing; where 2027 dates were not yet announced we give the established pattern and advise checking the organizer's site before you book.
How should you compare IAM conferences?
Five criteria separate a valuable identity conference from an expensive one:
- Who is on stage — What to ask: Practitioners, analysts, standards authors, or vendor product teams? · Why it matters: Determines whether you leave with decisions or with brochures
- Who is in the room — What to ask: Ratio of practitioners to sellers; seniority · Why it matters: Peer conversations are the highest-value part of any event
- Format — What to ask: Keynotes and expo, or roundtables, workshops and small rooms · Why it matters: Small formats produce candor; large ones produce reach
- Standards depth — What to ask: Are OAuth, OpenID, FIDO, SPIFFE and NIST authors present? · Why it matters: Essential if you are making architecture decisions
- Region and timing — What to ask: Where your team is, and whether it lands before or after budget cycles · Why it matters: A February event in Sydney shapes the year; a December one in Las Vegas shapes the next
Score each candidate against the three or four criteria that matter to your program this year, not against the size of the agenda.
Which IAM conferences are analyst-run?
Gartner Identity & Access Management Summit. The most searched IAM conference brand and the default for leaders who need market context. Two editions per cycle: North America (Las Vegas, December 7 to 9, 2026) and EMEA (London, March 8 to 9, 2027). Expect Magic Quadrant and Hype Cycle framing, one-on-one analyst sessions and a large expo. Best for: building a business case, benchmarking vendors, and validating a strategy with analysts. Watch for: a vendor-dense audience and a price point that limits team attendance.
European Identity and Cloud Conference (EIC), KuppingerCole. Berlin, typically mid-May (2026 edition: May 19 to 22). The European analyst house's flagship, with unusually deep coverage of decentralized identity, verifiable credentials, EU digital identity wallets and European regulation (eIDAS 2.0, NIS2, DORA, the AI Act). Best for: architects and European program leads working on standards-heavy problems. Watch for: four days is a significant commitment.
Which IAM conferences are independent and multi-vendor?
Identiverse. Las Vegas, June (2026 edition: June 15 to 18). The largest independent identity conference, with a strong standards community presence (OpenID Foundation, FIDO Alliance, IETF contributors) alongside a big expo and a wide practitioner base. Best for: identity engineers and architects who want protocol-level sessions and the people who write the specs in the same place. Watch for: scale; plan your sessions or you will spend the week walking.
Identity Week (Europe, America, Asia). Amsterdam, June (2026 edition: June 9 to 10); Washington, D.C., September (2026 edition: September 2 to 3); plus an Asia edition. Expo-led and broad, with a strong tilt toward digital identity, document verification, government ID and fraud alongside enterprise IAM. Best for: CIAM, identity verification and public-sector identity teams. Watch for: enterprise workforce IAM is a smaller share of the agenda than the name suggests.
Authenticate (FIDO Alliance). United States, typically October. The passkeys and FIDO conference, run by the standards body. Best for: anyone rolling out passwordless or phishing-resistant MFA at scale, with implementation detail you will not get elsewhere. Watch for: narrow by design.
Identity Management Day (IDSA). An awareness day each April rather than a conference, with virtual sessions; useful for internal awareness campaigns.
What do vendor user conferences offer, and when are they worth it?
Oktane (Okta), SailPoint Navigate, CyberArk Impact, Ping YOUniverse and the equivalents from Microsoft, Saviynt and others are product conferences. They are worth attending when you are a customer with a roadmap dependency: you will get product direction, early access and hands-on labs, and you can escalate issues face to face. They are not where you form vendor-neutral opinions, and your finance team should see them as part of the platform relationship rather than the conference budget.
Which identity conferences are practitioner-only?
Identity World. The global identity and access management forum, run as one-day, practitioner-led events with no product pitches on stage, in five cities across 2027: Sydney (February 18, Doltone House Hyde Park), Melbourne (March 17, Collins Square), New York (May 6, Ease 1345 Midtown), London (June 16, Hilton London Bankside) and San Francisco (November 3, Hyatt Regency). The audience is 85%+ IAM practitioners, mostly from large enterprises, and attendees collectively manage well over $900M of technology budgets. Formats are roundtables, live-vote panels and practitioner case studies on themes such as identity as the new security front line, governing non-human identities and agentic AI, and closing the identity gap. Passes for practitioners are complimentary via application; vendors participate through a separate partnership program. Best for: leaders who want candid peer comparison and regional application of global trends, including the only dedicated identity events of this kind in Australia. Watch for: one day means you choose it for depth of conversation, not breadth of agenda.
The related one-day IAM summits run by the same organizer (for example the New York and Melbourne Identity, Authentication and Access Management Summits in 2026) roll into the Identity World program for 2027.

How do you justify conference budget to a CISO?
Treat the request like any other investment case:
- Tie it to a decision. "We are selecting an NHI governance approach in Q2; Identiverse and Identity World New York put us in front of five enterprises that have done it." A conference that informs a budgeted decision pays for itself.
- Bring back artifacts. Commit in advance to a written readout: three things to start, three to stop, a vendor shortlist change, and the names of peers you will stay in touch with. The readout is the deliverable, not the attendance.
- Split the team by purpose. Send the program lead to the analyst event for market intelligence, an architect to the standards-heavy event, and the team to the local practitioner forum where attendance is often complimentary.
- Use regional events for the whole team. One-day, nearby, practitioner-only events let more of the team attend for the cost of one long-haul trip.
- Count the vendor conferences separately. They belong to the platform relationship, and many are subsidized by the vendor.
If your strategy work is still in progress, our IAM strategy and maturity model gives you the framing to decide which gaps a conference should help you close, and the AI agent identity and non-human identity guides cover the two topics most 2027 agendas are built around.
Key takeaways
- IAM conferences fall into four types: analyst-run, independent multi-vendor, vendor user conferences and practitioner-only forums. Each serves a different purpose.
- Choose by who is on stage, who is in the room, format, standards depth and regional timing, not by agenda size.
- Gartner for business cases, Identiverse and EIC for standards depth, Authenticate for passkeys, Identity World for candid peer comparison in Sydney, Melbourne, New York, London and San Francisco.
- Confirm 2027 dates with organizers where only the pattern is known; several events publish dates less than a year ahead.
- Justify spend by tying attendance to a budgeted decision and committing to a written readout.
